HOW CAN A PHOTOSHOOT BUILD CONFIDENCE IN TEENS AND YOUNG PEOPLE?
The transformation of people of all ages but especially teenagers have in front of my camera is incredibly powerful.
A photo shoot can do wonders to build their confidence in several ways and it’s so important to give teenagers confidence.
1) They get to express their style in a way that feels appreciated. Teenagers know what they like and don’t like. It’s important to me that the teenager themselves gets to choose what they want to wear and how they want to come across. Only they themselves know who they are and who they want to be. No one is going to force them to wear something they don’t like.
2)Listening to them makes them feel their opinions are valid. The teen themselves should be involved in the planning process and express what she likes and dislikes. Feeling like her voice matters is so important when I’m designing a session for my teens. After all, these photos should reflect what they want so it makes sense that she should be heard and be part of the process.
They will get to see themselves in a different way.
You know that your teen is beautiful, but it’s hard to see that for yourself. In a world where we are bombarded with unrealistic beauty standards and photoshopped filtered images everywhere it is hard for teens to not feel like they aren’t good enough. Seeing the images with no photoshop is an amazingly powerful thing. It might just them see themselves just for a second the way you see them.
Stepping out of your comfort zone can make you feel amazing!
Trying something new especially if it was a little scary can end up leaving you feeling invincible! Facing fears head on can sometimes be a huge confidence boost. They will get to relive the experience through the images and you can look back on them for years to come. Even after the session, the beautiful images will be a great reminder of how amazing and powerful they felt at the shoot. If you display a print or two in your home, there is a special reminder of how knowing how important they are to you.
It can serve as a bonding experience between parent and teen.
Just the fact you are giving your teen this opportunity and being there with them can make them feel supported and encouraged by you. Get involved with planning, giving the ideas, or making suggestions and get excited for them. This is a great way to do something together and strengthen your bond. If you want, you can request to have a few images together.
If you’re looking for a photographer who can help your teen dip their baby toe into modelling in a safe way in Brighton or would like to know more about giving them a personalized session, drop me a message and we can start to personalise a shoot specially for them. I’m ready when you are! I love working with teens and young people.
