What could a new body confidence mean for you?

Meet Susie,

I'm officially Susan, but most people (in the UK anyway) call me Susie and I've been photographing people, mostly women for 25 years.

Canadian born, I moved to Brighton a bohemian town on the south coast of England in 1999. I'd just finished studying sculpture at university in Toronto and although I knew that I wanted to be an artist, I honestly had no idea then what kind of artist I wanted to be. Eight months after I arrived here, I applied for a job in a a little makeover/portrait studio in Hove and that is where it all started. I fell in love with this amazing artform and the rest is as they say: history.

Very early in my career, I noticed something powerfully transformative about the experience of letting yourself be photographed. It is wonderful to watch how they I step into their power in front of my lens. It's almost like a light turns on in them as they let go of nerves and inhibitions while I get to unveil a confident beauty for themselves and for the rest of the world to see. People who may have had very little confidence before hand, starting the process of falling in love with themselves and letting go of their limiting self beliefs.

I understand that it takes a lot of courage to let yourself be photographed by a stranger- and even more to do that while not wearing a lot of clothes. I feel very honoured when you let me photograph you, and I'm very patient always give a lot of direction to make the experience much easier than you might think it will be.

I know that it is a very unique privilege that I get to see a little window into your soul that not many other people in your life will ever get to see, so I do everything in my power to make sure you enjoy the experience. As a 50 year old woman I too have insecurities, so I am understand it really isn't easy to feel good enough to put yourself out of your comfort zone and do something like this.

I want to show you a different way to see yourself so that you walk out of my studio on cloud nine feeling accomplished that you did it, and that we made some beautiful art together.

CONSULTATION

GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER OVER THE PHONEI’ll answer any questions you have and give you all the info you need to start to prepare for your shoot. I'll also find out a bit more about our style so I can start to plan and personalise your shoot.

VISION

Planning your unique shoot

During the weeks leading up to the shoot, you'll need to get your outfits ready and start to get a clearer idea of what you'd like your shoot to be. I'll give you lots of wardrobe advice and support along the way, and if it's helpful you can send me images of your outfits or ideas. Often we will exchange moodboards too.No two people are exactly the same so that is reflected in the type of shoot we will do. I love to personalise shoots to you and who you are.

YOUR PHOTO SESSION

RECLAIM YOUR POWER: UNLEASH YOUR INNER BADASSWhen you arrive at the studio we'll first sit down and go through all the outfits and plan the hair and makeup look for the shoot. You can relax and get pampered while Susie or one of her talented makeup artists does your makeup and hair for you so you look camera ready. When you are ready, it's time to get dressed up into your favourite outfits and step in front of the camera. You will start to feel yourself grow more fierce and radiant with each shutter click and pose. Susie will help you with posing so you don't need to worry about what to wear!

PHOTO REVEAL AND ORDERING

This is my favourite part.This is when you get to see your images for the first time. I never get tired of seeing my clients reactions to seeing themselves in photos.It will be emotional. We will go through your images together (either online or in my studio) and you can chose your favourites. the images chose the best ones and you can direct me on what photoshop you'd like me to do as finishing touches to the images.If you'd like more info on prices, see the investment page.

The Studio: An Artists Cave

If you chose to do a boudoir shoot at Susie's private studio, you can expect to be welcomed into a beautiful Regency room with incredible high ceilings located next to the sea in majestic Adelaide Crescent gardens.

The studio itself is a creative bohemian space full of colours and creativity. The studio wardrobe and makeup room is an Aladdin's Cave of curiosities and outfits, including many corsets, tule robes, and headdresses.

Possibilities are endless and I love hearing people's ideas.

Whether you are smitten by the femme fatales of the Hitchcock and Film Noir or maybe you're more into the sumptuous textures of Biba and it's dreamy boho aesthetic. Perhaps it's the romance of Pre-Raphaelites or Great Gatsby era, or a dark gothic witchy kind of style. Whatever inspires you, I would love to hear your ideas. From Apocalyptic Cyberpunk to Classic Pin Up, to Mythical gods or goddesses to timeless images inspired by Marilyn Monroe. Aesthetic options are endless!

Please don't worry if none of the things mentioned above appeal either- There is nothing wrong with a really simple classic boudoir theme if that's what you dream of. The shoot is about empowering you and being YOUR authentic self. Not trying to be something you are not!

Each photoshoot is a bespoke experience where we can step into the role as Susie's muse for the day. Inspiring her imaginations with your favourite colours and the aesthetic styling that you love. I love that every shoot is completely different.

No two people are the same or have had the same lives, experiences or live inside the same body. So no two people will have the same shoot. This is why each shoot is unique to you as if we were creating an editorial story about you.

When we do our phone consultation I'll just ask you a few simple questions to get your imagination whirring.

Coming from out of town?

My studio is in the beautiful Regency crescent overlooking the beautiful communal gardens right on the seafront near to the picturesque Hove beach huts. Brighton and Hove is only 55 minutes south by train from London Victoria, sometimes called "London by the Sea"There is a long history of the city being a popular a weekend getaway, so if you are coming from out of town for your shoot you might want to stay for a few days and soak up the seaside atmosphere. There's so much to offer in our diverse and creative city. Check back in soon as I'll be adding a new page shortly of my favourite recommendations for visitors to the city and some local knowledge.
