Playful, beautiful, fabulousness. One of my all time favourite themes to shot is Vintage Circus or after hours performance. Not only because of the flamboyance of the costume- But again it goes back to the gaze. Burlesque is about the female gaze. It is about the art of teese. Neo burlesque to athletes and performers, it is modern Pin Up art.
Vintage Vixens, Sensual Showgirls, Clever Cabaret, Delicous Dandys, Awesome Areal, Devilish Drag, Pole Dancers, Dancers and more. The Brighton Performers circuit and those who love the aesthetic.
The only thing I love more than photographing the decadent crystal details, tassels, and costumes about burlesque is how much I love the amazing creativity and energy of performers I've met along my journey shooting Burlesque... Back in 2006 in my little basement commercial studio on Queens Road that some of you may remember called Studio 27, it all started when I saw the book called Burlesque by Dita Von Teese. I was so inspired and started something I then called the BURLESQUE PIN UP PARLOUR. I've never stopped loving this incredibly decadent style and the scene has so influenced my photography and my life!
Like my own photoshoots the ethos of Burlesque is that it generally is for the female gaze. It is the art of teese and is about body positivity and acceptance. It is about stepping out of your comfort zone and stepping into the spotlight and shaking and bumping and grinding. Whether you are a newbie or are just dipping your toe into this artform or are a seasoned performer, I'd love the chance to get creative with you.
