How does a personal branding shoot work?

It all will start with a consultation phone call where I'm going to ask you a load of questions to get a vibe of who you are and to start to get some ideas of what we could do for your shoot.

You are going to need to start to work out and define what you want out of this shoot and we can start to plan it to make the most out of your session. A simple set of images for dating websites for instance is going to be very different from a creative entrepreneur or a small business owner.

Here are some examples of what I'm going to ask you to think about:

1)Who?

Who are you and what are you about? Do you want to include members of your team or just yourself in your shoot?

We'll also define who is your ideal customer and your dream audience and the who you want to engage with the photos.

2)What?

What images do you need? Just a few headshots? A few images for dating websites? Or do you need a hefty chunk of content you can keep using all year across many platforms?

What is your business about? What is important to you. What feeling do you want to get across. What feelings do you want to get across? What kind of stock images might be useful for you in the future.

Also more practically what platforms are your images likely to be shown on so we can get the format right.

3)Where?

What locations would lend themselves well to your brand? Would a studio shoot suffice? Do you want pictures of your workplace or with the atmosphere of nature or somewhere specific? Beach? city landmarks, a quirky cafe? Your home, workspace or studio? Locations add a lot of atmosphere.

4) When?

Do you have a launch or date when you need the photos by? Are there any seasonal elements to your work that you'd like to prepare for or to create stock images for? (Mother's Day, back to school, Christmas, New year: New You campaign, Valentines Day etc? Do you feel you will need regular updated images or will one shoot suffice? When is the light best at teh location that we've chosen.

5)Why?

What is your why? What makes you passionate about doing this? Why does your ideal client need to know about you?

6)How?

How would you like you like to come across? Luxury, friendly? authoritative? Quirky? Creative? Colourful? black and white? Classic? Do you want makeup and hairstyling included in your package? We are going to talk a lot about colour schemes and wardrobe ideas at this point. These fine details often are what really makes the shoot unique.A lot of my clients say that the shoot consultation is really good for them as it helps them to define their brand and think about how they want to come across. My best advice at this point is to not try to hard to be something you are not. Be yourself, but just a bit more of a polished version of yourself and show your personality as much as you can in your images.
